After the death of his wife, vaudeville star Eddie Foy struggles to raise his seven children on the vaudeville stage, attempting to balance the children's badly needed education with his determination to raise them as successful performers. The Osmond Brothers appear as five of his children.

Mickey Rooney, who stars as George M. Cohan, threatens to upstage everyone with his exceptional portrayal of Cohan, especially when he imitates James Cagney's dancing in the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy." The show is a remake of the 1955 movie of the same title in which Bob Hope, who narrates this show, starred as Eddie Foy Sr. Eddie Foy Jr. stars as his own father in this version.

Aired as an episode in the dramatic and variety anthology, "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre," this show was actually a pilot for a proposed series. This story has it all... humor, sentiment, and drama. Originally aired in color on December 24, 1964, only the black and white version is available.

Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre

"A 'pilot' is a film made by a producer who wants to pitch the idea for a TV series to the networks. If the network likes the pilot, or if they air the pilot and it gets good response, the producer gets a deal to make more episodes based on the pilot... usually 13 or 26, which will then be aired. If those do well in the ratings the network will request more episodes for a series. Many pilots get made every year, some make it to the air - most don't. We have included first episodes of series in this category, even though they're technically not pilots."
