This volume contains two pilots:
- Chicago 212 (Unsold pilot - April 30, 1957) Starring Frank Lovejoy as Ed McCook, with Roy Thinnes as the arsonist. The exploits of Ed McCook, an inspector for the Chicago Fire Department. McCook looks for an arsonist whose actions have caused the loss of both life and property.
- Unsolved (Unsold pilot - produced in 1960) Stars Simon Oakland, Aneta Corsaut. The story of Martin "Mugsy" Heidell, a gangster who moves from New York to California and opens a casino just over the Nevada border. His mob backers become unhappy because of a lack of profit return, and he is "retired", by nine bullets. Based on the life and murder of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegal.
"A 'pilot' is a film made by a producer who wants to pitch the idea for a TV series to the networks. If the network likes the pilot, or if they air the pilot and it gets good response, the producer gets a deal to make more episodes based on the pilot... usually 13 or 26, which will then be aired. If those do well in the ratings the network will request more episodes for a series. Many pilots get made every year, some make it to the air - most don't. We have included first episodes of series in this category, even though they're technically not pilots."
